(NEXSTAR) – The deadline for qualifying Trader Joe’s shoppers to get a payment in a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit is fast approaching.
A lawsuit filed in California accused Trader Joe’s of including the first six and last four digits of the shopper’s credit or debit card on the receipts of a small number of transactions at some stores. Though other significant information, like the middle digits and expiration date, was not included, the lawsuit says Trader Joe’s violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act.
Trader Joe’s denied any wrongdoing, noting that no customers reported experiencing identity theft because of the receipts. Still, America’s favorite grocer agreed to the proposed $7.4 million settlement.

The number of qualifying claimants is expected to be small, considering the receipt issue was limited to only some transactions at some stores between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019.
You may have already received an email or postcard alerting you to the settlement. If that’s the case, you can file a claim online or by mail. How large your payment is will vary based on how many valid claims are submitted, the settlement administrators explain. It’s estimated that each qualifying claimant could receive $102.45.

Even if you’ve been identified as a potentially impacted Trader Joe’s customer, you still need to file a claim to receive your portion of the settlement.
The deadline to file a claim is Tuesday, June 9.
This settlement is still pending approval from the court, with a hearing scheduled for early August. Any appeals in the case could delay how quickly payments are disbursed.
