Porsche is on the ropes. Its profits – once the envy of many a carmaker – fell off a cliff last year, plunging a whopping 93 per cent to €90m. Its bet on an EV future resulted in… two new petrol crossovers. It’s now on a mission to turn the ship around. And this is part of the solution. Welcome to the stunning new Mission S supercar.

It’s not a limited-edition hypertoy conceived for the fortunate few (though no doubt it’d sell out in seconds), but a full-production car that’ll sit at the top of Porsche tree. Which means it’ll look down on Porsche’s halo car. “The Mission S represents a mid-engined super sports car platform positioned above the 911 – not as a one-off hypercar, but as a permanent and versatile addition to our customer offering,” said boss Michael Leiters.
It was designed to be “recognisable as a Porsche at first glance”, and we’d say… mission accomplished. It’s very 911-alike at the front with that familiar headlight arrangement, a slatted bonnet, a clean front bumper, and what Porsche deems ‘torpedo’ wings. Then comes that swooped roofline, enormous barge boards on the flanks and a swoopy roofline flowing into that nicely integrated rear wing that carries more than a whisper of both the wonderful Carrera GT and classic 959.

Indeed, Porsche points to a number of its old cars that prowl the Mission S’s silhouette: the 911 as we’ve mentioned, the ‘G’ model car in the shut lines, the delightful GT1 in the supercar’s flat front, and heck, even the 928 in the wheels. One of the car’s coolest bits (apart from the roof scoop) emphasises its mid-engined layout: see that radiator fan in the middle of the car? That’s a nod to Porsche’s all-conquering 917 endurance racer. So, it’s familiarly Porsche, but just… cooler. Angrier somehow, and yet very clean. “The Mission S is the result of a forward-looking, holistic design strategy,” said Porsche design boss Tobias Sühlmann. Oh right, engine. Porsche hasn’t yet divulged what’ll power the production version of this Mission S supercar: if the 911’s got the monopoly on flat-sixes, what chance a flat-eight? Cast your mind back to July 2026, when long-time Porsche fwiend RUF unveiled a monster 4.8-litre eight-cylinder prototype boxer engine.
