Nearly 400,000 Michigan electric customers were without power early Saturday, July 4, after strong thunderstorms struck southern Michigan Friday afternoon.
Wayne County was the worst-hit, with 129,000 customers without power. Oakland County had 30,000 customers without power.
Kalamazoo County reported more than 23,000 outages Saturday morning.
DTE, which serves, southeast Michigan, said 221,000 of its customers were without power while Consumers Energy said 115,000 were without service.
"DTE has 500 team members currently working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible and hundreds of out of state crews are on their way to help speed restoration. We expect that 95% of affected customers will have their power restored by end of day Monday," DTE said on its website.
"We have mobilized 300 crews that will be working tonight and tomorrow to restore power as safely and quickly as possible. Our lineworkers will be available to work up to 16-hour shifts, allowing our response to continue constantly around the clock," Consumers Energy said on its website.
Friday afternoon and evening a series of thunderstorms moved across Michigan at about 45 mph. The storms brought wind gusts of up to 79 mph and spawned one tornado warning in Ingham County.
About 6,000 Lansing Board of Water & Light customers were without power following the storm and tornado warning.
